For Mac users and creative professionals, the feature set makes it a compelling alternative to more expensive first-party options. The display sells for around $800, which is notably less than Apple Studio Display territory, and it brings several tools that are rarely seen at this price.
Performance and refresh rate
The PA27UCGE supports a variable refresh rate up to 160Hz at 4K. This makes web browsing and document scrolling feel fluid, and it also helps for high-frame-rate video playback, gaming, and editing timelines with smooth motion. In testing alongside a 16-inch MacBook Pro with 120Hz ProMotion, the Asus panel matched that experience and could go even higher when connected to a suitable source. In independent testing with a Calibrite Display Pro HL and Asus ProArt Calibration software, DCI-P3 Delta-E stayed below 1.2 and coverage matched Asus's claim of 98% DCI-P3. The monitor also showed good luminance uniformity across the panel, with brightness tolerances staying within a delta of less than 5 across most test zones.
For video editors, the DCI-P3 coverage is useful for grading Canon Log 2 footage in Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve. AdobeRGB coverage is less impressive, so photographers who work primarily in that color space may want to look elsewhere. But for Rec.709 and DCI-P3 workflows, the PA27UCGE delivers accurate and repeatable results.
Design, build, and ergonomics
The design is classic Asus ProArt, with a dark plastic chassis and a focus on function over aesthetics. It does not feel as premium as Apple's Studio Display, which uses a unibody aluminum enclosure. But the lower price point and added ergonomics make the difference easier to accept. The monitor can tilt from -5 to +23 degrees, pivot 90 degrees in either direction, swivel 30 degrees left or right, and adjust in height by 120mm. Apple's base Studio Display only offers tilt, and the height-adjustable version costs $400 more.
Adjustments are not as smooth or as counterbalanced as Apple's premium stand, but the range of motion is far more flexible. The Asus ProArt PA27UCGE is not a perfect display. The build quality is not as refined as Apple's, the AdobeRGB performance is not class-leading, and 4K scaling on macOS still requires a compromise.
