Sam’s Southern Eatery Expands in Wichita

A Third Restaurant Brings Fresh Possibilities

Sam’s Southern Eatery is set to launch its third location in Wichita, introducing an innovative twist to its well-loved Southern-style menu. Emanuel Ashiedu, a Salina-based software engineer, announced the new restaurant’s opening at 6121 E. 21st St. This site, which originally operated as a Long John Silver’s in the 1980s and later transformed into Clouds — a daiquiri lounge and Mediterranean eatery — will soon offer Southern comfort food favorites.

First-Ever Drive-Through Service

For the first time in Wichita, Sam’s Southern Eatery will offer a drive-through service. Although this location is smaller than the other branches, Ashiedu is eager to test this model. The drive-through will feature a limited menu with popular items like fried catfish, jumbo fried shrimp, and po' boy sandwiches, while inside diners can enjoy the full menu found at the other locations.

Southern Comfort Cuisine at Its Best

Founded in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 2008, Sam’s Southern Eatery is famous for its diverse Southern-style comfort food. The menu includes a wide range of favorites such as fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, crab cakes, chicken wings, and fried oysters.

Expanding Footprint in Kansas

Ashiedu and his brother-in-law, Charles Scott, have steadily grown the chain’s presence in Kansas. Their first Wichita location opened in early 2024 in the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon, followed by a second location at 6600 W. Central later in the year.

Plans for Future Growth

The expansion won’t stop here. Ashiedu has his sights set on Wichita’s south side for another drive-through location, continuing the restaurant’s mission of bringing authentic Southern flavors to even more neighborhoods.

Scheduled to open in mid- to late March, the new east-side location promises a convenient and flavorful dining experience for all Southern food enthusiasts.
